Did you know that in addition to wine and its gastronomic products, Valpolicella also stands out for its rugby team?

The Rugby Club Valpolicella ADS has almost 50 years of history behind it: between sport, commitment and a strong bond with the territory and its inhabitants.

The adventure of the Rugby Club Valpolicella began in 1974, when Sergio Ruzzenente, still the president today, gathered a group of youngsters around him and started playing on a field in a small hamlet in the municipality of San Pietro in Cariano.

Once the initial mistrust was overcome, the number of children and youngsters in the area who became passionate about the sport increased greatly, and a first team was born, which was entered in the C2 Championship in 1976. A decisive turning point came in the 1984-85 season with the arrival of Welsh coach Lyndon Child, who improved the team's technique.

In 1985 the Municipal Sports Ground of San Pietro in Cariano was completed and finally two years later the Club House was built, with the commitment and work of many players.

This was the start of the years in which the team was formed more and more and during which technical and motivational growth was raised, allowing the promotion of the senior team first to C1 and then to Serie B, thanks to coach Mirco Bresciani.

Subsequently, after a few championships still in the C1 series, in 2004 the formation returned to tread the fields of the B series, where it remained until the 2009/2010 championship when, with the arrival of Alessandro Zanella, after winning its own round, it went to the play-offs for promotion to A2 with Frascati and won both matches.

In the second year of A2 (2012/2013 championship) Valpolicella Rugby ended the season in first place, won promotion to A1 and reached the final stages for the transition to Excellence and for the award of the title of Champion of Italy Series A: the highest goal ever achieved by Valpolicella and teams from the province of Verona.

Since that year, the team has been playing in Serie A, giving numerous satisfactions to its fans!
