The small village of San Rocco is located in the northernmost part of the Marano valley, right on the border that divides it from the Fumane valley.

Until not many decades ago, the name of the village and its church saw the addition of the words "di Minerbe", in reference to the ancient temple dedicated to the goddess Minerva.

The very old settlement consists of three main cores of medieval layout with rustic courtyards with arched entrances, covered passageways and traces of loggias.

Near San Rocco do not miss a visit to the Sanctuary of Santa Maria in Valverde, almost 600 m high on Mount Castelon: from here the view is unique and dominates the entire Marano valley.

The present church dates from the 17th century but seems to have a much older origin: in fact, it seems to stand on the ruins of an ancient temple dedicated to the goddess Minerva.

Already in Roman times there are reports of the presence of a castle in this area to guard the valley below: tradition has it that it was built by the consul Caius Marius after emerging victorious in the clash with the Cimbri.

The site where this little church stands inspires poetic suggestions, which is why it has become a popular destination over the years for those who want to celebrate their wedding in Valpolicella.

The small churchyard, surrounded by pine trees, forms a stupendous belvedere with a vast view that sweeps as a whole from the Valpolicella below, to the Baldo Mountain Range, and even to Lake Garda.
