On the top of Mount Castelon, passing Marano is this church from which you can enjoy a truly breathtaking view!

Tradition has it that already in Roman times there was a castle built by the consul Caio Mario after winning the Cimbri. The castle was later demolished in 1325 by the Scaligeri.

On the slope there is also a temple dedicated to the goddess Minerva on whose ruins or nearby the current church of Santa Maria Valverde would have been built.

The current church dates back to 1682, as can be seen from the inscription placed above the baroque main altar and underwent extensions and changes that lead it to the present structure.

The church has three naves and three apses.

Inside, the miraculous wooden statue of the Madonna with folded hands and the child lying on his knees is venerated, dating back to 1516, which bears the inscription on the back of the pedestal: "This Madonna made the company of Santa Maria de Valverda de Castelo da Maran de MDXVI ”.

The bell tower houses a complex of six Veronese-style bells plus an ancient Baroque bronze.

However, absolutely not to be missed is the view enjoyed from the panoramic terrace, from which you can admire the Valpolicella until, on clear days, you can see Lake Garda.
