Pescantina stands on the banks of the Adige and the river has played a fundamental role in its history, as confirmed by its very name, deriving from “pescante” (“place that fishes in the water”). 

In Roman times, the Pescantina area very probably formed part of the Pagus Arusnates (population of the 5th-6th centuries B.C.), as confirmed by numerous archaeological artefacts. The commercial mainstay was navigation.

The village also experienced the World War of the last century at first hand, becoming a place of protection for those who managed to return to the homeland after being interned in the Nazi camps. A camp was created to protect and offer help to former prisoners by the many volunteers (mostly women). 

Nowadays Pescantina has become an important resort and spa centre with two of the most important thermal centres of the region that offer relaxing days and wellness for everyone.

Besides, peach cultivation has recently become widespread and is now one of the most typical features of the area, with a lot of events created around this product.
