Starting from the XVI century, Ponton became a commercial port of fundamental importance for the loading and shipping of the marble produced and processed in the surrounding areas.

Even today, for lovers of outdoor walking, it is possible to walk to the center of Verona (about 20 km) the ancient road, known as the towpath, which in past centuries was used by horses and mules to drag boats and commercial barges along the Adige.

Just outside the town center is the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena, which became a parish in 1456, whose floor is formed by a chessboard of precious black, red and white polychrome marbles.

THE OASIS OF PONTON
Today the port is no longer active, but this small loop has become a naturalistic oasis, characterized by an interesting variety of flora and fauna.
