If you are near San Floriano to pay a visit to the ancient Romanesque church, then take a few minutes of your time for a look at Villa Lebrecht, a few steps from the church.

The date of construction, not certain, is around the 16th century, commissioned by the Marquis Fumanelli.

After being owned by the Ottolini family until the mid-nineteenth century, in 1868 the villa passed into the hands of Giacomo Franco, an architect, who decided to completely renovate the building and the large surrounding park to adapt them to the worldly interests of the family.

Subsequently, the Lebrecht family, an important member of the Veronese Jewish community, purchased the entire lot, transforming it into a sort of large living room for intellectuals and artists.

Thanks to the care of the Lebrecht family, the villa once again assumed splendor and was given a purely Art Nouveau style, with the construction of a splendid gate that encourages the visitor to cross the long avenue illuminated by the lanterns.

Inside, don't miss the fresco on the ceiling of one of the ground floor rooms depicting Bacchus crowning Ariadne, the work of the artist Giovanni Caliari.

In 1974 Villa Lebrecht was acquired by the province of Verona, which restored it deeply to return this splendid palace to the citizens of San Pietro in Cariano and visitors.

For a short period the property was used as a female psychiatric institution, subsequently the premises were used for professional training for agriculture.

Now the villa is a detached seat of the University of Verona.
