This majestic villa was built starting from 1735 by Count Giacomo Fattori in the hamlet of Novare, in the territory of Negrar, in an inlet rich in water and always kissed by the sun.

The unfinished villa was sold in the second half of the 18th century. to the Mosconi family, whose name it still bears, who completed it by adding a green romantic English-style park.

During this time it was a literary salon frequented by the most famous intellectuals of the time, including the Veronese literary Ippolito Pindemonte.

Following some dark years, the building was purchased and renovated by the Bertani family at the end of the 1950s, which made it the representative office of their winery, an activity that continues today.

Majestic and classic construction, Villa Mosconi Bertani was built on a project by Lodovico Perini first and then by Adriano Cristofali, articulating itself in a central body and two lateral wings that enclose the garden.

The external courtyard in front feels protected by the security offered by the elegant gate.
The eastern wing includes the chapel consecrated to San Gaetano, flanked by the small bell tower.

The three-storey main building has two architectural orders: Tuscan on the ground floor and Ionic on the upper one, ending with a tympanum in the highest part with the coat of arms added by the Trezza family.
For the entire complex, soft tuff, typical of Valpolicella, was used, which adds brightness to the already majestic appearance.

Visiting the interior of the villa, you cannot miss the Hall of the Muses, admirably frescoed, with a painted wooden balustrade that runs along the walls; at the top, you can see the allegorical representation of the four seasons, a symbol of the passage of time, concerning the purely agricultural context in which the villa is located.

The large English-style park (as it has exotic plants, avenues, fake archaeological ruins, isolated places ...) develops behind the villa, where seven springs on the property form a small pond, in full respect of the neoclassical artistic canons.

On a bank of the lake stands the chalet, built at the suggestion of Ippolito Pindemonte, impressed by the French sources and meadows seen during his stays with friends of Jean-Jacques Rousseau. The chalet had multiple destinations: reading, music, board games ...

A CURIOSITY:

Right here, in the winery of the villa, the classic Amarone della Valpolicella was born.

Due to a cellarman who let Recioto ferment unintentionally for too long, the wine became very bitter ... Amarone, in fact!
