Also known as Borgo dell'Amarone, because it is a place of cultivation and production of Valpolicella DOC and DOCG wines, the small town of Gargagnago lies at the foot of the hill on which the bell tower of the Pieve di San Giorgio Ingannapoltron rises imposingly.

Gargagnago is one of the most evocative and peaceful places in the whole Valpolicella area: it is nestled among fine vineyards and surrounded by cherry trees, which in spring bloom coloring everything white and in early summer delight all gourmands with their sweet fruits!

Heading toward the center, two important points of interest are encountered:

Villa Serego-Alighieri, still owned by the direct descendants of Dante Alighieri and home to a renowned winery, and the church of Santa Maria della Misericordia, whose construction is traced back to the late 14th century, but is likely to have older origins.
A 16th-century wooden statue of Our Lady of Mercy, after whom the church is named, is preserved and venerated inside.

Finally, in Gargagnago it is possible to follow several paths that wind throughout the territory of Sant'Ambrogio.
The most particular is definitely the Quattro fontane (Four Fountains) trail: a 2.5 km path that joins four stone fountains, crossing the village, climbing up the hill of Monteleone and entering the fields among vineyards and cherry trees.
